Shadow Shot Sunday

This week's shots are of Mr Crocodile. As I was putting two kitchen roll cardboard tubes in my bag to take to school for junk modelling, I clicked them together on my fingers and Mr Crocodile was born. He is all ready now to go into school on Monday and teach those pesky Monkeys a lesson. If they had not swung in the tree above his head and teased him, I expect he would have left them alone. We sing this song (Five Little Monkeys) quite often and the children act out the part of the monkeys and the crocodile with little pictures for their characters. We played it the other day and we had gone through four of the monkeys. Only R. was left. We got the the part of the song where Mr Crocodile was about to eat R. Monkey for his tea when all of a sudden he bolted! He was not about to be eaten by any crocodile thank you very much!
Have a look at this picture to see the long suffering Mr Crocodile shrink wrapped to within an inch of his life.

Perdita's Story

Here is Perdita's story, made into a little book, sewn together, written in ink pen and aged with coffee. I enjoyed making the little book a lot-I want to make more things where I get to sew paper-it is most satisfying! Now I have made this, all I need to do is make her a label and send her off. Next weekend I will wave goodbye to her and hope to see her again one day!

Black Cats

There are two black cats in this post. One is my old cat Connie (named after the main character in 'Woman on the Edge of Time) She was my first cat after I left home. We found her and her kitten, Meep, in a box in our back yard in Leicester. We did try to find owners but they had obviously been left there. One big, scary man came round, just wanting the kitten (Meep was a beautiful grey colour) but we refused. Connie was a beautiful and gentle cat. She had such a lovely nature. She was pure black but used to go a bit rusty in the summer! This painting is of her in our back garden in another house. She had two friends who visited-black and white boy cats who are always friendly. One was called 'One Eye' (for obvious reasons) and the other 'two eye' We also had Meep, Boris and later Halo (after Halo Jones!) It was a very catty house!
The other cat is in this Thomas Hardy poem. I heard on the news this morning that it was international poetry day so I started thinking about this poem. I can find no reference to today in that way on the internet though so I may have it wrong! Andy loves poetry and has shown me many of his favourites over the years. This is one of my favourites.
Snow In The Suburbs
Every branch big with it,
Bent every twig with it;
Every fork like a white web-foot;
Every street and pavement mute:
Some flakes have lost their way, and grope back upward, when
Meeting those meandering down they turn and descend again.
The palings are glued together like a wall,
And there is no waft of wind with the fleecy fall.
A sparrow enters the tree,
Whereon immediately
A snow-lump thrice his own slight size
Descends on him and showers his head and eyes,
And overturns him,
And near inurns him,
And lights on a nether twig, when its brush
Starts off a volley of other lodging lumps with a rush.
The steps are a blanched slope,
Up which, with feeble hope,
A black cat comes, wide-eyed and thin;
And we take him in.
I have had to use colours as blogger will not leave my spaces alone!

Mad Hatters

I want to spread the word about Candace's very own Mad Hatter party on the 24th October. Candace has the lovely blog Eye Candy-full of artful and other interesting goings on from Athens Georgia. (The classical city as she calls it!)

Candace is having a Mad Hatter's Party on 24th October where there are.....

"No rules! How could there be? Just post a hat, artwise, photography-wise, whathaveyou-wise (okay, now I am just making words UP here!) on your blog, Saturday, October 24th."

So, there you have it, the invitation is passed on! I am looking through my hat box right now! Well, after writing this anyway.
See you later!

Colour and Bird Faces

BLUE BIRD

RED BIRD
PINK LADY
ORANGE LANTERNS
I had a few birds waiting for faces, so after doing the two for the giveaway, I did a couple more. The little doll is from Greenwich-another market find. The orange physalis are waiting to be strung as a garland-but at the minute are just tipped on the side. They are so bright. I love the google image page for them.

Shadow Shot Sunday

My tea this morning with one of my favourite teaspoons from Sarah in Holland.
The shadow of the spoon.
The beautiful fabric from Jessica of Sweet Eventide-from a fabric swap arranged by Lisa of Parallel Botany. I have a few ideas of what to make-once the sketchbook project is finished and a few other things I am doing are done! It is lovely fabric-thanks Jess!
A flying saucer gourd. I liked its shadow. The shadow could be the aliens getting out of their gourd.

Pinch Punch...

...First day of the month. These lines always come into my head on the first day of every month. I think someone I was at school with used to follow this with her friends-not friendly at all I know. The sunflowers are beautifully dying. They can stay up as long as they will last and then drop their seeds for next year's crop.
Humpty Dumpty wishes you a happy Fall! As you can see by his face. I like the rhyme of Humpty Dumpty and looked it up on Wikipedia to see where it came from. One of the meanings is short clumsy person. It is not stated that the character is an egg, but it is thought that the rhyme was a riddle and you had to guess that he was an egg. He also could have been Richard the Third the 'hunchbacked egg' (from Shakespeare) Have you heard this version?
Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall,
Eating green bananas.
Where do you think he put the skins?
Down the King's pajama's
I have lit the fire for the first time this autumn. I did it for Tiger really-she loves the fire! Our old cat Boris used to lie in front of the old gas fire in the flat we lived in, and give it the look of love. The only other thing (person) that got the look of love was my Mum, who I think used to really spoil her when she went to stay!
It is only gas but it looks so real! It is one of the things that made us buy this flat.

When I started my little photo shoot tonight, Humpty was intact, apart from the already broken arm he had. This is what happened:-
Humpty Dumpty sat on the step,
To have his photo taken.
The step got moved and he fell off.
Now he is all broken.
By me-a tall clumsy person! Poor Humpty, I will have to get the superglue out later!
