Dinosaur

Have you ever seen a piece of video art called 'Brontosaurus'? It is of a naked man, dancing wildly in a room-I can't remember if there was music or not, I have a feeling there wasn't. It was in the Tate Modern in a little room for a while. When I saw it, I was visiting with my Mum and I think she was slightly taken aback so we passed quickly through! I quite liked it-there was something touching about his dancing. The reason it was called Brontosaurus is because there was a little toy one perched somewhere in the room. There is a tiny dinosaur perched in the post today, but there the similarities end.
The photo of the poor abandoned and still beautiful house, and the Charlie Chaplin silhouette are both in Woolwich, quite near to where I work. The other photos are from Greenwich. I took one of the buildings at Canary Wharf and it was just crying out to be cropped and made abstract. I want to make a mosaic of abstractly cropped sections of the photo but did not have time tonight!
The domed building is one end of the Greenwich foot tunnel. I have not been through there for years, but the last time I did you were allowed to ride your bike, and now you can't.
On a happy note, one of my favourite shops from the closed part of the market-The Old Bottle Shop, has moved to Trafalgar Road. When I spoke to the lady who owns it before it had to close, she was not at all sure about her future, so I was pleased to see it there and will visit soon.
I have just looked up Brontosaurus and found out it is by Sam Taylor Wood. There is music, he is a very bendy man, I don't think I watched all of it before! I think he is dancing to dance music which strangely goes with the classical music being played. Only watch it if you are not shocked by bendy naked men dancing!

Fit Friday

Sports day today-no pictures-I was too busy running up and down with small children! The downside to the modern world and all its gadgetry is that I will appear huffing and puffing on numerous phone shot videos forever! Or at least until it all breaks which I suppose it will one day. It is also fit Friday as it is the third day in a row that I have cycled to work! I feel so virtuous and I really enjoyed it too. I still have not got the car back but whenever it returns I am still going to try to cycle to work at least till the end of term. The weather has made it a real pleasure but I don't mind cycling in the rain either. I will see. Most of my fads last about three weeks. If I get through the three week barrier I might buy myself some new cycling shorts as the ones I have got are old and worn out.
Here are a few sights from the way home today.

A poor old abandoned building with a poor old abandoned for sale sign. The buddleia has found a happy home though. I love the way buddleia grows anywhere. Any crack in the pavement, side of a building or neglected roof. I planted one in the nursery garden but it did not survive. I was astounded! One has taken root in my garden and I am really pleased.

This is a little nursery which has been there for years and always looks lovely. It is on a busy corner, traffic wise, and really brightens things up. This view is a little limited but I took it because I like their broom display. I need a new broom but did not want to carry it on the bike!

This beautiful tiled sign is on Herbert Road. The shop is now a Barbers and before that was a really good second hand clothes shop. I wonder how many other lives it has had in between being a Grocers and Provision Merchants and now?

Have a lovely weekend!

Yesterday and Today

This is my brother Antony, altering my polka dot wall while Andy cooks something delicious. It was creativityville here last night. Although it was fun drawing on the wall I did actually really like it before! Now it has become a journal wall of a sort. I will take pics to show you but then I may scrub it off and go back to the graphic simplicity of my dots! Another of Antony's journal pages-from Angkor Wat. I looked at lots of his photos at the weekend. I would love to go there as it looks amazing.

I worked at home this afternoon-we have something called PPA time-planning, preparation and assessment-today was the turn of assessment-oh joy! While I was working I noticed the beautiful light display going on on my kitchen ceiling. I am very easily distracted!

During another 'brain break' I went into the garden and took a few photos-I loved the colours in this one. The snails rule outside at the moment.

At about 4 o'clock I decided to go to the garden centre to buy a birthday present for my friend at work. However the road was shut so I had to detour back past the common where there is a fair at the moment. It was such a gorgeous afternoon-so good for photos. Funder Park. Hmmm! Next I decided to go to Greenwich to see HMS Illustrious which is visiting from Portsmouth as part of the Royal Navy's celebration of 100 years of naval aviation. It is big and impressive and made the ferries look tiny.

Then it seemed a shame not to go and have a look in the bookshop. It was busy in Greenwich as there was a French food market on as well as the attraction of the ship. Once in the bookshop I then could not resist a number of purchases-one was a present is my excuse! I bought a fantastic book of Penguin book covers. Such beauty and great design. Then I had to get out lots of our penguins to see more beauty and great design in reality!
