Cardboard Princesses

All princesses need jackets, even cardboard ones, or they will get cold. If their jackets do not have buttons they will come off. So it became my job to sew on the buttons, and from one girl making a princess and needing a button, I then had quite a few more. All the princesses are very individual in appearance, but they all have green jackets with pink buttons in common. This is my favourite sort of activity as it involves both me and the children having an input to get what we want, and also involves them in real activities with real and potentially dangerous tools. The needle was a pretty blunt one so not really dangerous, but I was using the grown up scissors to cut the arm holes. I think quite a lot of the kids we have got this year could be trusted with needles and sharper scissors, but certainly not all! Anyway, here is our round up of princesses.

Kid creations always make me smile. They are so genuine in their imaginations. The jackets look like a great way to give their princesses something to wear.

Lovely little princesses. I'm thinking of changing my boring black buttons to pink ones on my winter coat now that I've seen these!

Oh sooooo lovely! It's brilliant when something like that sparks off a whole trail of related activity. Brilliant! Hope you have a great week. Ros

What a great selection. I'm a great believer of allowing children to use grown up tools properly. Obviously depends on the child and supervision of course.

These are gorgeous! When I was a Guider with Brownies I always liked to make good stuff, with proper tools. The other Guider didn't and so wouldn't really help!

Love your Dutch posts. You really must just blog what you want... I sometimes feel I'm not Me enough on my blog, and am going to be more so in future. Hopefully the people that read will continue to do so, I like their company a lot!

Hahaha! I love the look on the princess's face in the bottom lefthand corner. The clothes are also very cute. Perhaps if I had a great teacher like you to teach me the basics at that age, I would now have been able to sew properly.

Great fun - and how connected all the children must feel.
