Simple Things

I have enjoyed considering some of the simple things that make me happy. I have picked a few to share.Writing-the physical act of writing rather than composing what I write. I find it soothing. I also love to doodle and do lots of repetitive patterns, which have the same effect on me.

Toast-long time friend and easy delicious meal. I worry when I look at this picture as I seem to have put rather a lot of butter on it. The plate is from New York. I have an Orio cookie one too!

Rust-These are two things from my rusty things collection. I see rust and I feel happy. (Not on my car though-I have just had a large and expensive piece of welding done due to rust! The best thing about it was that Mick the mechanic gave me a piece of the rust to demonstrate how bad it had been! Rust souvenir.)

Stones-in general and this one in particular. My friend Sarah gave me this stone. She had collected it on holiday, carried it home and brought it to me all the way from Holland. It makes me happy because she knew it would-if you see what I mean!

The view from my kitchen sink. I look out on this view when I am washing up. I have lived in places with the view of a wall from the sink, which is not half so much fun.

Rain, the colour yellow and sunflowers. I was greeted by this sunflower on Monday morning when I came to school and started to set up the garden. Beautiful!

Visit Christina here to see the simple things she has chosen, and to visit other people celebrating simplicity!

Oh I love your list Sarah! I am SO with you on the toast thing - ambrosia's actually just the Greek word for toast, surely? And what a lovely view you have from your kitchen window... it makes a such difference, doesn't it?!

Have a happy Wednesday!

I love these types of posts! It's always good to just stop and look at, and appreciate those everyday simple things that make us happy. And I certainly like your list! Hey I also slather the butter on my toast. It's really the only way to eat toast I say!

What a wonderful post and what a wonderful exercise too. So many of us forget it's the simple things... I love the view from your window and know what you mean about staring out at yet another wall!
I too love the colour yellow and that sunflower is just amazing -- like it is popping up to say "hi" to you!
Take care!

Oh Sarah - just wait until you visit - there is a wonderful rusty corrugated iron shed near here - we'll have to take you to see it!! (I'd love to take a photo of it but it's on a busy road) I love your list, especially having a view from the kitchen window while at the sink -obviously kitchens without a view from the sink are designed by men!!

Toast! Definitely one of my all-time favorite simple things. When nothing's in the cupboards or even when they're full, I can think of a better supper. What a lovely list! Thanks for sharing.

That sunflower is great, I seem to fail on sunflowers, two years in a row though I do have a couple of dwarf ones in pots that are suddenly showing signs they might do something.. the big ones for my eldest to try and grow a monster one didn't even sprout!

I just love toast. I think I've a photo of some toast I posted when it was a bit dark, cold and miserable here. A lovely comforting food . The more butter the better.
Simple pleasures!

Such lovely things and what a view from your kitchen window! I love stones and rusty things too, although you're right, not on cars. Once I lived in a cottage two blocks from the ocean in Pacific Grove, CA and the sea/salt air made the car door lock rust (in less than four months).

I rarely get through the day without at least 2 pieces of toast. Often, I'll have another 1 or 2 before bed. I love toast! Do you remember the "Toast" song from the 80s?

I've been out of town so I'm just now getting around to visiting all of Christina's friends. Isn't this the most wonderful idea? I just wanted to say hello and tell you how much I like your list and the way you illustrated it with photographs.
