Week of Colour-Friday-Purple

Purple is probably my least favourite colour. It kind of gives me a headache. There are certain shades of purple that are just so unpleasant to look at that, well, I don't look at them! In the same way some of the colour weekers found orange difficult, so I did purple. Still, I peeled my eyes and actually found more of it in my life than I thought! I do like some purples-very dark and very bluey ones. I found some I like-or not today as you shall see...! Ok-I admit-I bought these specially-they are just gorgeous and smell amazing. I think they are my second or possibly third favourite flower smell-after roses and hyacinths. These just remind me of a frilly party dress.
This is one tiny part of an old mosaic table I made a long time ago which is now slowly rotting in the garden. Other random purple things I have seen today include a man in a purple t-shirt with some purple flowers, my hoover, my box of washing powder, (both the shade of purple I absolutely hate), a bottle of handwash at work, my usb hub, the spine of the following books "A Thousand Hounds" and "Complete Feltmaking" and my elephant bits and bobs holder in the bathroom which is such a pretty purple and from a good friend so I love that one!
As I was thinking about purple yesterday I thought I had no purple clothes. Then I found one purple top and one pair of purple tights-I wore both today and probably looked like I was wearing an all in one purple body suit! Then tonight I found this nightshirt stuffed at the back of the cupboard. It has that combination of purple and red that I don't like but in this I do. It is such soft cotton too. TK Maxx does the best nightwear!
At Sainsbury's tonight I parked next to this Micra-and yes, I did park there because it is purple and I don't think anyone saw me taking pictures! I have a Micra but mine is silver. They are ten a penny but purple?
Going round Sainsbury's looking for something for my tea, I took more photos, all of which were awful. I got tempted by some cherries, despite the extortionate price. I commented to the nice man at the till on how expensive they were and he said that was strange, as we were next to the 'Cherry Isle'. Apparently that is a name for Kent-I didn't know that and I am from Kent! I am glad I found out though as it is such a pretty name and it is where I will say I am from from now on! I am eating some cherries now. I have eaten about £3's worth I think. This (on the cherry bag) is the purple I really don't like, this exact shade-corporate purple I call it.
My whole post seems to be Sainsburies related tonight. Going round I remembered the never changing purple of Cadburies Dairy Milk. They have new things like gigantic chocolate buttons. I went for tradition however and bought a bar.
The purple top, tights and my skirt! I also own a purple popper bead necklace but I didn't wear that.
While David Dimbleby presided over 'Question Time', mainly focusing on the MP's expenses scandal, (which you may or may not have heard about, basically lots of them have been fiddling expenses for years, buying houses for their ducks and large chunks of their mortgages), he chose to wear this rather bizarre tie-what does it mean? Perhaps he is taking part in the week of colour and we didn't know. Maybe he is trying to lighten the tone.
Finally, although this is only purple by a long stretch of the imagination, it did make me think of this quote from my favourite film.
"Come on lads, let's get home, the sky's beginning to bruise, night must fall and we shall be forced to camp." If anyone is purple in his soul then it is Monty!
Thanks to Lisa for organising such a great week and I really enjoyed visiting everyone to see the colourful beauty and words on offer. Have a lovely colourful weekend!

This week of colour is so brilliant Sarah.

I have to tell you I had a good laugh at the 'it still stings.' Well you and I could have danced together and even though I would have ben shorter I would have let you be the girl.

Lots of love and have a great weekend.

Love Renee xoxoxo

I love purple - although I don't wear it often - but it has to be either really dark or really pale.
Our bedroom is a very pale lilac and I have a silk patchwork wallhanging in shades of purple and blue- which you can see in my flickr wallhangings set. ( the lilac is so much more restful than the strong yellow the room was painted when we moved in). I have really enjoyed your week of colour.

Great job on all of the purples. I have to admit that it isn't one of my favorite colors either.

I have to say I love purple....it was my wedding color. I carried some sterling roses mixed with other flowers. I love sterling roses. They are about the only rose that still has its very strong smell of a rose. I was reading your movie list and I was so happy to see two movies I just seem to watch over and over Amelie Moulin Rouge. ALso I saw we are only one year apart and our birthdays are only days apart!.....but you do not like purple...HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM????lol

Well, thanks to that book/poem "When I Am An Old Woman, I Shall Wear Purple", we are inundated over here at times. I do like some shades of purple but not that "corporate" Cadbury hue. HA! A perfect description (but I do like their chocolates)!

These photos are lovely, no matter your feelings! Lol...
Have a colourful weekend! This has been such fun.

Thanks Sarah:

I just had to talk to the flower girls because they thought the girl with the mickey mouse ears looked like a slutty bitch.

I am glad that you and I don't make rash judgments like that.

I don't know where the heck they got that attitude from.

xoxoxo

Love Renee

Isn't it funny how color is so emotional? How a color that uplifts and energizes one person, drags another down. I love that about color and really cringe when people tell others what color is 'in' or what color combo to use. It is way too personal for that.

Way to go out on a limb and to know what you like and what you don't!

btw - I can smell the sweet peas from here!

Oh, sweet peas! So pretty and they do smell gorgeous!

I've loved all your colour posts Sarah but what I love about your purple post is that you did such a great job of it despite your dislike for most things purple! I do understand what you mean about corporate purple though - yuk! I love cherries too and would also have ignored the purple branding to enjoy them. I didn't know that about Kent either... makes me even madder that we have to pay so much for them. I do though 'cause they are wonderful.

Happy Friday to you too! :)

I quite liked purple when I was a teenager - but then we fell out of love. We must have made it up again, because I found quite a few bits of purple in my closet - a top, a wrap, a hat, a pair of floaty chiffony trousers, a velvet skirt, a bag - I was quite surprised! That Cadbury's purple is the best! Okay, it is because of the contents, I know. PS So funny - I also wore some purple things today as inspiration - a knitted flower and a purple ring!
