When Children Pick, and some journal pages

The children have picked these roses and I didn't want to waste them so they are waiting to be painted tomorrow morning. We have a huge rose bush in the nursery garden, with no thorns, and roses that smell lovely-the perfect rose I think! At Forest School there are three basic rules which the children learn quickly-Don't Pick, Don't Lick, and Stop. Don't pick anything growing, don't put anything in your mouth, and stop at the blue rope. They learn them, can recite them, and can tell me the reasons behind them. Keeping them is quite another matter at times! I feel sorry for children a lot of the time-there is so much to remember and so much that can go wrong! So, when three fairly crestfallen kids were sent to me to be suitably told off for picking the roses, I did talk to them, but I said we could keep them alive a bit longer by putting them in water. One of the kids went and ran the tap all over her rose! I think they look really pretty in their plastic blue washing powder jugs.

A while ago I bought a book of David Shepherd paintings in the charity shop. It is a signed copy I realised after bringing it home! I like his work and the book has some beautiful examples. I had a go at an oil pastel elephant tonight.

Envelope page. The junk mail is providing an interesting variety of envelope interiors.

Drawing of doll photo.

More doll drawings and paintings.

I found this in a newspaper today, as I was doing my end of the week job of covering the easel in newspaper. I always find something interesting so the job takes twice as long.

I sometimes feel that my kid's life is full of 'No' and 'Don't' and I hate that but I don't see any other ways of protecting him.

I love your artwork! When I was little, we had a rosebush in the garden which sounds the same as yours - my sister and I used to try to make perfume with the beautifully scented leaves!

Ah roses! Matthew came and he was very surprised at my request for his job: prune all the roses down to about 2 feet above the ground. My heart was breaking but the weather has been so cruel to all things around here that for the first time in years it was the black plague of blackspot, botrytis and who knows what else, and I just couldn't see the poor things suffering any longer.
I love your white rose, actually both the one in the blue cup and the one painted. I hope you have a nice, relaxing weekend. Hugs from here dear.

Sarah I like everything that you have shared here in this post.

It is such a shame about all the rules... I try to tell my son that they are guidelines to assist him with being safe.

I really enjoy your creativity.

best wishes
Robyn :)

White roses are my best! I love the journal pages - especially the envelope inners one! I made notebooks of envelope inners a while back. (I have only made two journal pages in the last couple of months - might post one today. Oh, I must get back to my art ... must ... get ... back ...

Oh that’s a wonderful forest rule for kids…! It’s true that kids should be mentored at this age..! And it’s really artistic that a slip up has been turned into a piece of art! And sure any form of art is born from the observation of nature..!!
