Haiku Festival

Tracy at Pink Purl and Elizabeth at About New York are hosting a festival of Haiku poetry. Visit them for a list of poets to visit!
I wrote mine before I had read about them-I just knew the part about the 5-7-5 syllable pattern. Then I read about how they are usually about nature and reflect the season, using symbols such as cherry blossom for Spring. My first one kind of fits!-the season was autumn.
My second poem fits a season in my mind-summer-when we have to complete the 'Foundation Stage Profile'-a large document making final judgements on children's achievement in nursery and reception. The 'figures' in the poem refers to this.
Days spent with children
In creative pursuits will
Mean more than figures.
The last one is not really about nature or seasonal-though I tend to go to pub quizzes more in the winter! (And sadly do not retain much!)

Oh Sarah! How truly inspiring. I love all but the newt got my heart
(and I don't mean my Beloved here)
and brought back memories long forgotten. Thank you for both.

Thank you for so many terrific poems, Sarah! Your haiku and artwork tie in so seamlessly with each other--each poem a unique and evocative experience. So glad you joined us. Many have been enjoying this even. It's been a great day! :o)

How nice for the children to have such a creative teacher!

These were an absolute delight, Sarah!
Also the pictures were wonderful too.
I wish people wouldn't endlessly fill out forms about children and standardize everything.
CREATIVITY RULES!

Loved your Haiku, especially the 'newt' one. Beautifully presented too. I teach 7 and 8 year olds and it has been a real delight to come home this evening and relax by reading everyone's Haiku and finding some more fascinating sites to pop into! :)
(sorry, I posted on the wrong post, but left it there as I don' like deleting. I got carried away with your fab shadow photos :))

Although they may be non-traditional haikus, the haikus work so well with the pictures!

I've gone through some of your previous posts ~ your flower photos and doll faces are fabulous! It's interesting to see what talents exist all over blogland!

I see Clever Pup has been here. What's this about Withnail? I didn't see mention of him. Reveal!
Oh, and I have no Moggie, but I do have 4 felines.

Me again! I've just been perusing and I have to tell you that as I write this, my husband is watching the Newcastle/Middlesborough game and Martins has just scored!!! Yeah!
(I have two NUFC jerseys in the closet upstairs - as well as a baseball cap and my husband has a fleecey thing too.)
Husband (Kev) plays in the Fantasy League here in Canada and the Premiership is a huge chunk of most of my weekends.
Just thought I'd tell you.

Hello Sarah! It is great to meet you and I love how your haiku is presented to us through your journal, which makes them all the more special. I LOVE that newt, in image and word!!! He is a reward indeed!

I love the first one as well. It reminds me that even in mundane tasks, I might find something worthwhile. I just have to keep my eyes open!

Sarah, I love the way you incorporated the haiku right into your artwork. The effect is even more enjoyable.

Hi Sarah,

Not Psychic, no. I read in your post further down that you were watching a game, so I had to comment. I guess I should have mentioned that.

Love these Sarah! How fun. Love the previous post as well and forest fish is so cute! You certainly understand haiku better than I do. I'll have to visit other participants.

These were such imaginative haikus and so beautifully illustrated!

My daughter-in-law teaches kindergarten -- 5 year olds. It requires so much energy but it is so rewarding.
