From Greece to Greenwich

We got up early to see the Olympic torch pass near to where we live. It was all very exciting and good natured. Lots of happy police officers on bikes, motorbikes and standing by the road. Grim faced security officers in grey uniforms who I think are also police, accompanied the torch bearing lady as she passed us by. They did occassionally crack a smile though, in between scanning the crowds.

 A lady wearing her flag.
The Olympic alien, as Andy put it. I have not got to grips with the mascots so am not sure which one this is.
 A quite perturbed cat spectator.

The happy torch bearer. I have tried to find out her name but information is unclear so I am not sure who she is I am afraid.

This bus driver was right behind the procession and looked happy to be included in the general clapping and merriment.
Blackheath Standard at about 8.30-absolutely bursting with people! We went for a lovely breakfast at Gambardella's which finished off the whole event nicely.

I rather went off this whole torch thing when I discoovered that it wasn't a proper relay with one torch being handed one from person to person. I also don't like the very prominent sponsorship by firms that hardly promote good health. OK that's the moan over..... it is good to see people out having fun in the sun - there has been very little of that so far this summer!

Loving your Olympic stuff, the other post about general differences it's made was really interesting, I hope you'll do more of that.
Also your Usain Bolt is brilliant, A doppelganger!!

Looks like a worthwhile early morning. We had planned to see the relay as it passed through the centre of Norwich. We live only a five minute walk from the centre, but even so, we pulled out in favour of early evening slobbing on the sofa!!! Enjoy the hols! Ros

Fun to get an eyewitness view of the torch trip without it being filtered through the news media.

The 2002 Winter Olympic torch and its entourage passed within a block of our house on the way to Salt Lake City. It IS an exiting event.

Love seeing your photos of the Olympic excitement! Cops and bus drivers smiling! It was the same over here in Vancouver when it was our turn to host. Are you able to go to any of the games? And if so which ones?

Wow, how neat! I remember watching the torch run through my little town in Indiana on its way to Los Angeles in 1984. Unforgettable!

'grim faced security officers'... made me laugh :)
