Shop

Clarice and Pamela have been buying old junk for so long now, that they can't remember a time when they didn't. They are wondering whether to start a shop of their own, to make some room to buy more, as they have read that others do. (They have read this so many times it is starting to bore them!) They borrowed a friend's warehouse space, as their little house is too small to show off anything to its proper advantage. They had fun setting up some of their favourite items and pretending to be shop keepers. They like the idea of sitting around all day, sipping tea, quaffing cake, and waiting for like minded people to wander in off the street, and take something strange, old, most probably slightly damaged, but always wonderful, home. They are pondering over a name for the shop, premises and funds, but other than that it is all systems go.

In other news, they have mainly missed all the hoohah about the future wedding of the future king of England-William, to Kate Middleton-a 'middle class' girl who he met at university. I however, have not missed it, and find it all quite interesting. Obviously it is the perfect story to take the poor British public's minds off of their woes, so it is good in that sense. Also I do find all the detail strangely fascinating. Royal Doulton have had their china designed for a few years now-and changed the initials from K for Kate to C for Catherine quite some time ago. Phew that's a relief! I remember the wedding of Charles and Diana, which I watched at my Nan's flat. It is for this reason that I remember it most actually, rather than the wedding itself. I still have my
C and D souvenir china heart trinket box somewhere. I don't think I will be buying any memorabilia for this wedding though-life has become far too incredibly commercialised since the comparatively innocent days of the eighties! Out of interest, if anyone is still reading my ramblings, and if you live elsewhere-how much has this been covered on your news? I am curious!

Clarice and Pamela certainly have some interesting stock - I'm sure their shop will be a great success.

The news is rather blah re: the royals ...unless there is scandal involved and this Kate and Mr. handsome Prince is pretty run of the mill. I think that everyone became so involved with Dianna that all energy was spent, emotions ran high for such a long time.
Oh my, the shop is wonderful- I would shop there! Such eclectic things! wherever did they find such treasure??? The giant eye ball probably sees into the future! I wonder...

Your friends have put together a remarkable display. It just begs to be played with while the imagination goes wild. I'd love to get my hands on the little people and start creating voices and situations.

"La-te-da! What are we having for tea? Eyeballs? The big ones or the small ones? Well, just don't let Big Head get all the good parts, she is such a glutton!" (hehe)

Also, I made the fig and cinnamon cake. Could find NO FIGS at the grocery so I used chopped dates and raisins soaked in cranberry juice. And I threw in some chopped apples. Turned out YUM!

Thank you Ros! They are true-in my little head!
I had trouble finding figs too-eventually found them but I like dates better anyway!
Thank you Pea!
I like the royals but find the media attitude a bit much-it is not the individuals but the attitude. I hope they are happy.Thank you Janice and Mary!
I don't normally do the comment reply thing-even thoug I woul;d like to -usually due to time constraints and the slight awareness that I don't remember to go back and look! .

love the shop, I'm not sure what I would buy.

Wills and Kate, watching it on TV at the moment. It's big here, with the meida, us being part of the commonwealth, but I don't think anyone is all that interested.

I have seen some short articles and photos in our local newspapers - some South Africans are still rather obsessed with royalty! No doubt there have been reports on local TV as well - I don't watch TV though ... I must say, the whole thing (and all other royal business) leaves me cold. I had tro be reminded who Prince William was - somehow I thought he was Charles's brother. Don't blame me, I am clueless!

Oh, we are all agog, over here!

I remember watching the wedding too - Diana was close to me in age, so it made it rather exciting in that respect. It was her dress that was the big phenomenon, I think and of course the stateliness of the wedding. I also remember every news report on her death. That was surreal.

I have a couple of souvenir mugs from the wedding that I picked up at a charity shop in recent years. I like to watch, "Corrie" with my Chuck and Di mug.

(You're such a hoot! - Clarice (Cliff, by any chance?) and Pamela—
I love their shop1!

P.S. I've been wanting to call and have a chat, but our long distance service is not active while we're between houses. It will be once we move and then we can have a proper natter.

Love,

Kat

I love your little shop and your imaginings of how the shopkeepers might fill their days (I once worked in a shop for 6 months, and yes, I ate cake and drank tea!) I've had enough already about the wedding - just because of the saturation civerage of every last little detail!!

Good luck with the shop if it ever becomes reality. I´ll take the small globe before someone else does. No idea what for, of course.

I didn't know about Prince William's future wedding. I remember there being talk of his girlfriend but didn't know they were engaged. I still remember watching Charles & Diana marry on TV. Such a fairytale for the age I was at the time!
