I have some very old oil bars by Windsor and Newton which are still usable, but have gone sticky so are incredibly messy to use. I ordered a basic set of Shiva Paint Sticks (oil paint in a crayon form) from America and mainly used these. They are lovely to apply but initially messy as you have to get the hard skin off first. Yesterday I just used my fingernails and got in a big mess. Today I used a palette knife and still got in a mess but not as much! The oil paint is lovely and creamy and can be blended with fingers, a brush or a blending stump. I used my fingers. I love the way the colours blend in unexpected ways. The effect is different to anything else I have used. The face above is a made up one. The one below is from a photo of
Alice Liddell.
WOW these look three dimensional! Awesome colour! I need sme of those oil sticks...and then I need your talent! Really nice, these!
ReplyDeleteI am looking for some as soon as I can get to the art store, trust me. WOW. These are just incredible... of course, so's your art!
ReplyDeleteAnother great job, Sarah.
I love the richness of the colours, but I also really enjoy seeing what you are up to.
Good things, that's what.

ReplyDeleteYOU do have a great gift for expression of eyes, Sarah! The depth and vibrancy of these oil sticks is incredible! I may have to get some of those to play with. Fun departure for my chalky pastels... Thank you for so much inspiration! :o) Happy Weekend ahead ((HUGS))

ReplyDeleteOh these are terrific Sarah!
ReplyDeleteI'm really loving your portraits Sarah! They have a real richness and depth to them. I've never tried oil paint sticks but I have enjoyed playing with pastels and love how tactile they are. It was such fun getting stuck in with my fingers to blend them - lovely.
ReplyDeleteThis redhead of yours looks a little sad to me but I like it. Maybe pensive more than sad?
Those are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the richness of the colours, but I also really enjoy seeing what you are up to.
